About Venturing || Frequently Asked Questions

If you would like information on joining Venture Crew 85, the best way is to join us at one of our meetings and see what we are all about. We meet at the Church of the Brethren, on N. Court and Brinton Ave., in Dixon, the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Please look over our calendar of events, news stories and photo gallery to see what we have been doing and what is coming up. If there are other questions you would like answered before coming to a meeting, contact Terry Fuger at advisor@venturecrew85.org with your name and phone number and he will reply to you very quickly.

History

Crew 85 was organized on May 12, 2001 by a group of high school students who wanted to be able to do exciting activities and help their community. We have spent a week canoeing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota in 2002, a week backpacking on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia in 2003, a week mountain biking in the Adirondack Mountains of New York in 2004, 2 weeks backpacking in the San de Cristo Mountains, New Mexico in 2005 and a week canoeing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota in 2006.

Currently

Venture Crew 85 is made up of 16 high school and college age young adults. Our officers are in college and high school and are excited to provide the organization needed to plan our continuing events. This year the crew has been camping 10 nights, and participated in 9 community events, which logged over 300 hours in community service.

Future

In the summer of 2007, we are planning whitewater rafting trips on the New and Gila Rivers in Virginia.  In 2008 we are considering a scuba or sailing adventure in the Florida Keys, or whatever else the Crew decides to plan. Come join us and help plan our next High Adventure.

We of Venture Crew 85 hope that you'll join us at a meeting and share our adventures.
